NULL CIPHER
THE MESSAGE WAS IN PLAIN SIGHT.
Nothing unusual. Look longer.
In a null cipher the secret is not scrambled. It is simply buried. The real message is carried by initial characters while harmless cover text fills the page.
Anyone can read the cover text. Almost nobody notices what is staring back at them.
EVERYONE CAN SEE IT. FEW WILL READ IT.
Read each ally’s dispatch. It tells a great amount, if noticed.
A null cipher does not lock anything. It relies on the reader not looking. That makes it weak as security and fascinating as an idea, because so much of the internet works the same way: public, visible, and unread.
TURN THE NULLS OFF.
AN OLD HABIT.
The Acrostic
In classical poetry, initial letters of successive lines spell out a hidden name or secret message. The poem reads normally on the surface while communicating discreetly to the attentive reader.
Innocent Cover
For centuries, individuals under surveillance relied on ordinary-looking letters to transmit messages. Scrambled ciphertext aroused immediate suspicion, whereas innocent prose passed without scrutiny.
Steganography vs Encryption
Encryption makes a message unreadable to unauthorized eyes. Steganography hides the very existence of the message itself, trusting that unread text will remain unnoticed.
$ null read cover.txt --rule first-letter
cover: 412 characters
nulls: 398
message: 14
> is it encrypted?
no.
> then why can't I read it?
you can.
> ...
read it again.
NOTES IN THE MARGIN.
- 01. Visible is not the same as noticed.
- 02. Most of everything is padding.
- 03. Hiding is not locking.
- 04. Attention is the only key here.
- 05. Read it again.
NULL CIPHER / $NULL
Null Cipher is a community-driven Solana meme coin inspired by messages hidden in plain sight. The token is the cultural artifact. The reading is the story.
